# How to remove an admin from a Facebook Page, and why you should add a second one first

Removing a Facebook Page admin takes a minute. Recovering a Page after the only full-control admin leaves can take months. Here is the safe order.

**Not legal, tax or financial advice.** Rules differ by country and platform menus change often. Use this to organise your thinking and check anything important with a professional or the platform's current help pages.

## The short answer

On a Page, people with full control (Meta calls it "Facebook access") can add and remove other people. In the current Pages experience you open **Settings**, then **Page access** (the exact names change, so check Meta's current help page), find the person, and remove their access. You cannot remove the last person with full control.

## Before you remove anyone: the safe order

1. **Add the new person first.** Give them full control, not just a task role such as content or ads.
2. **Check who owns the business portfolio.** If the Page and the ad account sit in a Meta business portfolio (Business Manager), the portfolio has its own admins. Removing someone from the Page does not remove them from the portfolio.
3. **Check the ad account and its card.** Note who pays and who can change the payment method.
4. **Remove the leaving person last**, and change anything they could have saved (passwords you share, tokens, connected apps).

## If a co-founder removed you

- **Do not try to get in through their login.** It can breach the platform's rules and may be unlawful.
- **Save evidence now:** screenshots of the Page, its history and ad receipts that show you paid.
- **Ask in writing** for full control to be restored by a date. Keep the tone calm and factual.
- **Platform support usually helps only current admins.** It does not decide who the rightful founder is, so a written agreement and a second admin from day one matter more than any appeal.

## Set it up so this never happens

- At least two people with full control of every Page and business portfolio.
- A project email address as a recovery contact, not a personal inbox.
- Two-factor authentication on every admin, with the backup codes stored in a shared vault.
- A written record of who controls what. The free [access audit](https://whoownswhat.xyz/tools/access-audit) takes two minutes.

## Get a safe plan for your Page

Describe your setup. The AI gives you an ordered checklist and a calm message to your partner.

```
I run a Facebook Page and ad account with a co-founder. Help me make sure no single person can lock the others out. I am not asking for anything that breaks platform rules.
Our setup: [PAGE NAME, WHO HAS FULL CONTROL, WHO HAS TASK ACCESS, WHETHER WE USE A META BUSINESS PORTFOLIO, WHO OWNS THE AD ACCOUNT AND CARD].
1) List the changes in the safest order, using Meta's current menu names and saying where you are unsure. 2) Draft a friendly message asking my co-founder to add a second full-control admin. 3) Tell me what to save as evidence of who paid for ads.
```

## Frequently asked questions

How do I remove an admin from a Facebook Page?

Open the Page's settings, go to Page access, find the person and remove their access. You need full control yourself, and a Page must keep at least one person with full control.

Why can I not remove an admin from my Facebook Page?

Usually because you only have a task role, not full control, or because the person is the last one with full control. Ask a full-control admin to change it.

Can a co-founder remove me from our Facebook Page?

If they have full control and you do not, yes. That is why every founder should have full control or at least a written agreement about the Page.

What is the difference between a Page admin and a business portfolio admin?

The Page admin controls the Page itself. The business portfolio holds the Page, ad accounts and people, and has its own admins. Check both.
